He is not "one of their own". Sad in a way but understandable. See my prior posts.

GB figured most Puerto Ricans don't realize there's a fighter out there that they can rally behind as one of their own. This will definitely get a lot of PRs aboard and this will translate into decent grossing PPV events.

I'm in PR at the moment, if this gets made before I leave, I will go. If any BS members are going, we can meet up.

And put an LA Mexican in with a born and bread Mexican and see who the folks from south of the border support. They will support Rios TO THE EXTENT where he is not fighting one of their native fighters. That's a very conditional support and it lacks authenticity from a support stance, but their are being authentic to themselves, territorial. Just ask Oscar De La Hoya how that feels. Read my prior post where I use analogies like Camacho/Rosario and Dulorme and Garcia.

Wow, you really don't understand nationalism. I'll let you down easy: They DONT fully support him! That's just how it is. It has NOTHING to do with him speaking Spanish! It has to do with his geographical association! FACT: If the 5'9 Felix Verdego ever rises up to his weight class or any other Native Puerto Rican signs to fight Garcia, Garcia will be immediately abandoned and thus will never really be accepted. It is what it is. You can lie to yourself all you want. Doesn't change a thing. Who do you think the folks from Puerto Rico supported when Edwin Rosario fought Hector Camacho???? I'll give you 5 guesses and the first 4 don't count! They will half-hearted support him all the way till he puts the ink on a contract to fight one of their own and then the honeymoon will be over...actually, it will never begin. They will NOT give up that part of their hearts to a fighter who is not from Puerto Rico. Some day they may appreciate Garcia to an extent like they do Camacho, but he will never be in their hearts like the fighters who are from Puerto Rico, live and breath Puerto Rico, speak Puerto Rican, etc. It's not just about the blood, the ability or lack of ability to speak Spanish, it is about the entire culture! If Thomas Dulorme fought Garcia, regardless of who anyone thought would win, they would support Dulorme because his identity and culture, if nothing more, is Puerto Rican, even though he is not by blood. Those are the subtleties cultural, national influence.

The Ricans are clutching at straws for champions these days. My guess is that the American is a huge success in Puerto Rico.

It is NOT about him not being Rican. He will never have the full support of Puerto Rico. See my prior post.

I appreciate his efforts, but he's not rican, I like him as a fighter, he doesn't have to have certain type blood for anyone to like him, I just like a good fighter, has a mean hook.

    Good move by GBP.
So how is not Rican??? Just because he is from America??

So does this means that Mexicans born in America or not considered of the Mexican race??

So does this mean that African Americans are not really black just because they are not born directly in Africa??
