Do you guys agree with this? TR/GBP feud benefiting the fans.

Little snippet from an article I was reading. This was the main point of it. Do you agree or disagree?

This could all go bad. It could be a mess. But if this is getting as personal as it seems, if the animosity is really boiling over, and the networks are looking to trump their rival (HBO proving superiority, Showtime proving they're at least an equal), then this could all be a big win for boxing fans, too.

No fights that were really possible are now off the table. More didn't change than did, really -- Golden Boy and Top Rank weren't working together to begin with. But now the allies are recruited. The battle lines are clearly and publicly drawn. And we've got potential for some serious oneupsmanship that breeds a new mindset in boxing, where promoters actually try to make the best fights that they can.

competition forces competitors to improve their product and/or reduce prices. But there are fights we haven't seen as a result of the Cold War. Big fights. And in fact you could argue that we are seeing these mismatches more often because there is added pressure to preserve the PPV stars e.g PAC vs rios who's made for him. These stars are important in providing exposure to other fighters in the promotional stable and they subsidise for these up and coming potential stars.

Yup. Short-term, it's worked out pretty good. GBP, especially, are going flat out to make great fights/cards.

Long term, I think we'll feel the effects in a negative way though.

No it sucks for the fans,,, the network beef is what is really causing the good fights,,

but if TR and GBP were working together the 2014 schedule would look like this

        floyd-bradley

        manny- thurman, or porter

        mares- doniare/rigo

        jmm- garcia

        ruslan-garcia

Good point. We do get some more mismatches in order to raise some stock in unworthy fighters.

Long term as in, Pacuiao/Bradley fighting each other 20x in a row?

Good point. The networks would be the ultimate roadblock in negotiations.

It's getting boring because all the fight we needed to see are done. Now we have to see Pacquiao-Bradley rematch...

True, but Pac/Bradley rematch is awesome.

But still, I get your point.

I think it's a flawed way of looking at it. it's like saying if they didn't have their feud the promoters wouldn't bother trying their best to make money ... all this feuding is doing is denying us some good matchups

Like a few have said we haven't really seen a negative effect in the short-term, but long-term it definitely wouldn't benefit us as fans. TR has already ran out of WW opponents for the top guys and have to bring up guys from 140 ( Pac/Rios) (Bradley/Provo) The bigger the talent pool the better fights we are going to see , and we probably won't see as many mismatched fights.

I sort of agree but there was a time a few years ago when Golden Boy and Top Rank sometimes worked together to make fights between fighters that were promoted by both sides. Ideally they should always work together to match their fighters into each other if it's a good fight that makes sense. Bradley could be fighting Thurman or Maidana or Mayweat
