Comments Thread For: Pascal-Bute Produces Lukewarm Ratings Results

Fans in Canada responded in droves to the January 18 light heavyweight bout between Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute, but the HBO-televised headliner barely caused a ripple anywhere else in North America.

Televised ratings for the live boxing telecast from Montreal drew an average of roughly 840,000 viewers, the lowest total for any World Championship Boxing telecast in more than 13 months, according to Nielsen Media Research

The card this weekend, with a world title at stake, two overall better fights, and a better chance of action, is going to be on BAD, but Pascal-Bute was on WCB? Don't get that one.

        Didn't Martinez-Murray/Arreola-Stiverne do lower?

Martinez-Murray took place in Argentina, and because of that the fight started at 9:00 PM EST which resulted in lower ratings.

Anyways, I'm not shocked at this result. Going into the fight Bute vs. Pascal was a battle between two fringe contenders. One whose reputation was shattered after the Froch fight, the other who was inactive and not very good when healthy.

The undercard was dreadful as well.

HBO should just bury the hatchet with Golden Boy Promotions.

Be the network that does business with everyone in order to put on the best fights.

Respectful numbers that are not bad at all considering Bute/Pascal have been very inactive against any top contenders just journeymen/gatekeepers to help build up the fight, also the bout took place in a foreign country and was just a bragging rights type fight not actually a bonafide world championship title fight.
