  • Comments Thread For: Golden Boy's VP Reacts To Abner Mares Injury Doubts

Eric Gomez, Vice President and head matchmaker at Golden Boy Promotions, told BoxingScene.com - that there is no doubt that Abner Mares sustained a rib injury that forced him to withdraw from a February 15th rematch with WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez.

Mares visited Dr. Daniel Maldonado on January 10, who issued his report to Golden Boy [copy found below], and the former three division world champion was advised to rest and stay away from taking any contact to the affected area.

Bruising can be internal, and it most likely is. I really don't think Mares is scared like a lot of people seem to think, why would he take an immediate rematch if he was?

It'll come to a point where its a doctors note, picture of injury (with face included), timestamp, and a photobomb by a celebrity.

Mares is one guy I would never doubt. We all know the dude got some cojones. If it is fake it would be cause GB is in it and they want him for the Mayweather PPV.

I'm not doubting the authenticity of the doctors note, but his grammar and punctuation are disgraceful. You would think someone as educated as a doctor would write a better note than that.

"He was evaluated and complained of pain." Don't you complain of pain and then get evaluated.

I think he may have been saying that there was no visual sign of injury but Abner complained of pain. So easy to claim internal pain because it's hard to disprove.

You give a doctor enough business and he'll write you anything you want. Not saying that's the case here but showing a doctors note is going to far. Addressing it further gives the claims of the injury being fake some sort of credit. If you broke your leg and someone said you didn't..wtf is the point of sending him xrays..it's so outlandish it shouldn't have been replied to. Let the other side build up marketing for the fight for you with all their comments..let their comments make your fighter angry and put on a good show when they do fight. THE END.

Yeah....it might be a language barrier, but still, it's embarrasing when you consided his profession...there are several errors but the ones I noticed off the bat were "sparing" sessions and feel free to "cal" him...
