Roy is 100% right. Yes, broner talks a lot of **** and shouldn't be treated like a contender any more, but the truth of the matter remains that he's only 23yrs old. Other than Tyson, prolly no one in the history of boxing has faced the competition and accomplished as much as broner has at such a young age. Still the youngest 3 division champ in history. Chino was just too much too soon but I think the rematch will be different and broner will dominate

Roy ranked Broner as one of the top 5 best P4P fighters in the world. A guy ranked that high is supposed to beat Maidana.Comment

As far as grooming a fighter yes but Broner asked for it and was talking a big game and got what he deserved when he couldn't back up his talk. Although it doesn't seem like it was a great enough ego check from things hes said sinceComment

I admire the fact he hasn't changed his persona, still don't like him but its better not to change just because of one thing.
Was it too soon for Canelo or many of the other champions who are young, what Roy has said is just an excuse.
I don't think its a case of too soon, I think its more to the case that Adrien Broner isn't all that he was made out to be.
He (Broner) Is definitely talented but Maidana is a tough little rugged guy who gave many American prospect alot of problems plus the fact Broner was looking to just throw a handful of punches never helped, he has fast hands he just doesn't have a work ethic of a champion.
Whether he stayed at 135lbs, moved to 140lbs I think he would of lost in each division.
The reason he moved from 135lbs?
Terence Crawford most likely, he would of whooped him.Comment

So much for About Billions and "Easy Work". Wonder if Roy thought it was too much too soon before the fight. Broner was always bigger than his early weights and Maidana spent most of his career at or below 140 if we are talking about weight adaption. But if we are talking about experience, Broner was defending his 3rd weight class title and if he was some superstar as he claimed to be, Maidana should not have been seen as too much too soon.Comment

Instead of Broner thinking he is some sensation as in some endowed ownership inherently possessed, he needs to learn that he has to become that, not just claim he is. Blood, sweat, and tears put in and no Ho's (among a bunch of other bad habits), need to be dropped. Either he wants to be a club hopper hip hop rapper or he wants to shut everything else out and pour all that energy into training like the old time fighters without distractions and he can become something better than he currently really is and not quite as good as he thinks he is. Reality is between being just very good and sensational and he needs to come to grips with the fact that he may be somewhere in the middle and what he puts into it is where the pendulum swings. Drop the Ho's Doe!Comment

The main point is: not only Broner, but the overwhelming majority of the boxing community thought he was (or is) the future of boxing, or at least that was the "official truth". Was everybody wrong ? I don't think so.Instead of Broner thinking he is some sensation as in some endowed ownership inherently possessed, he needs to learn that he has to become that, not just claim he is. So Roy Jones is right. Broner moved up too quickly (and Maidana is better than some people want to recognize). The opposite is equal to believe that the Sun orbits around the Earth.Comment

Fernando Vargas was 21 when he became champ. Wilfred Benitez was 17 I think. And Pipino Cuevas was 18 when he became welterweight champ. All 3 faced tougher opponents than Broner imo.Roy is 100% right. Broner took the fight because after trying to feed us his bull**** for so long he just ended up eating it himself and got a harsh wake up call via Maidana's fists letting him know that he's not the best ever. If the rematch does happen, I'm hoping that Maidana will knock him out.Comment

There is a difference between "the boxing community" thinking he is the future of Boxing and Broner's own assessment of "taking over boxing". That is a HUGE gamut of difference. No way in hell he is taking over boxing. Reality is always somewhere in the middle or less and being a champion and a top fighter is closer than "the future of Boxing" or "taking over Boxing". Understand something about psychology. People are wined, dined, and seduced by brash arrogance and massive claims and unbeaten records. He talks a great talk, makes some noise, but all that glitters is not gold, not that much gold. He can be a champion but not a superstar, too many flaws. Sure as hell is not a Floyd level nor will he ever be a Floyd level Millions and his Billions talk, no one ever believed that or 95% of what he said. So what the community "thought he was" "or is" is nowhere near the hype, not remotely. Reality is he can be a good champ some day, at best. The competition is stiff and I would pick several guys to beat him....that is not the future of Boxing. The "future of Boxing" is a guy like prime Jones and Floyd where it seems no one at or near their class can beat them in their prime. Prime Mosley at Lightweight. Guys like that. Prime Trinidad had only one guy that people thought could beat him, he was sensational. Not only do most think several guys could beat Broner, most think at least two or more already have. Hype bites back when reality is the wake up call. Anyone with a checkbook can write a check for 100 grand. How many people can actually get cash for that check from just anyone writing it? His ass couldn't cash the one his mouth wrote. The main point is: not only Broner, but the overwhelming majority of the boxing community thought he was (or is) the future of boxing, or at least that was the "official truth". Was everybody wrong ? I don't think so. So Roy Jones is right. Broner moved up too quickly (and Maidana is better than some people want to recognize).
