Argenis Mendez....I knew something was wrong.

So, it comes out that Mendez had to loose about 14 pounds in two weeks to make weight???? And that before the fight he was feeling dizzy? You know it's funny but it makes sense why even with the wind of Barthelemy's punches Mendez was being shaken! He was obviously weak as hell. He is better than that and it's the reason why I do believe in a rematch he would be a lot better (granted that he actually prepares like he should).

First, I would like to say that it's a damn shame that Mendez was irresponsible and didn't loose the weight moderately. Dude needs to stop hanging with Guzman! I mean he knew about this damn fight a long time ago so my question is why the hell would he need to loose so much weight in so little time?? Get with it Mendez or your career will be over worse than Guzman's! Unbelievable to say the least!

Second, I would like to say that his corner sucks! How the hell are you going to put him out there like that? If the guy was feeling sick and dizzy in the dress room then maybe he shouldn't have fought. Yeah, ultimately the responsibility falls on the fighter but damn he could have really gotten hurt out there. His corner is not looking out for his best interest. That was not smart but again shame on Mendez!

With all that being said I think if there is a rematch things might play out a little different even if he looses. But Mendez is a lot better than that....a lot better! So, for all of you who are or were saying that he wouldn't or shouldn't take the rematch because he would get destroyed again I strongly disagree (again, granted he actually learned his lesson).

He was hurt by almost every single punch Bathelemy threw. I think he was lucky to get KOd quickly he could have really got hurt. Dehydration does terrible things to the brain. Besides both guys are 5'10, it must be near impossible to make 130 safely.

Why take the fight then? I agree, it sounds like he was dehydrated and possibly disadvantaged but his team should have decided not to go through with the fight if he was in that bad of shape.

Why take the fight tho except this is a perfect case of when trying to squeeze the size advantage backfires, but is nothing new remember zombie rios? But idt Mendez has any chance at 140.

That's exactly my point! But I think if it's true that he had to loose all that much weight within two weeks then he is to blame because why would he wait that long to loose that weight? He should have lost it slowly so that his body would have adjusted a little better. That's loosing 7 lbs a week! That is crazy and it's definitely not healthy at all. I've been watching Mendez for quite some time and not even when he is tired and getting tagged has he looked that bad. I'm a fan and all but if he decided to not do his job and tried to do everything in two weeks time (for a championship fight) then he got what was coming to him. And I really hope he learned his lesson.

I remember watching him fight Usmanee, can't believe he got a draw. He was working the shoulder roll on that guy and looking so relaxed. Sure he got tagged sometimes, he's not Mayweather of course but I thought he picked up the win easy.
Controlled the distance well, was economical with his punches, and excited the crowd(wasn't afraid to fight in the pocket). Haven't seen the Barthelmy fight.. I understand there is controversy surrounding a knockout but honestly from what I've seen of this Mendez, he appears above average skilled. For what it's worth I'd rather watch him over Broner.

Same thing happened to Dawson against Ward, every punch hurt him by a guy not known as a puncher. And it was hard for him to recover I guess because he went back up to 175 and got knocked out with one punch.

Many fighters lose ridiculous weight in the final couple of weeks before a bout. Most of it is obviously water weight. It may sound nuts, but losing 14 pounds in two weeks isn't particularly unusual. There's a reason why many fighters rehydrate ten or more pounds after weigh-in.

That said, I don't doubt that Mendez was not himself against Barthelemy. I said the night of the fight that I'd never seen Rances look so sharp and punch so hard. We'll see during the rematch. It's coming one way or the other.

Maybe boxing should go back to the days of weighing in on fight night so guys are not draining themselves down to the point of dangerous health. It would certainly change the landscape of a bunch of lower weight divisions.

Hey man, no disrespect but that sounds like a load of excuses. There's people who lose about 8 lbs in the last week before weigh ins... Didn't he come in like 2lbs under the limit? When people are struggling they usually come in at or over the limit.

He was getting hurt cause he decided to come lighter vs a big guy.
