    Scoring the Great Fights

So I was watching the Holmes interview on SkySports, not the best interview I've seen and very contradictory, as Holmes often is but nonetheless, I was reminded of how great the Norton/Holmes clash was for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world. So I went back to watch it and score it. I'll try to do this every week with a different fight.

    So...

    Ken Norton v Larry Holmes
WBC Heavyweight Championship of the World
    Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas
    9th June 1978

This fight was held for the WBC heavyweight title, after Leon Spinks, having just beaten Ali, refused to fight Norton who was the then, number one contender.

It has been ranked as one of the greatest heavyweight bouts of all time.

    Round 1: 10-9 Holmes
    Round 2: 10-9 Holmes
    Round 3: 10-10
    Round 4: 10-9 Holmes
    Round 5: 10-9 Holmes
    Round 6: 10-9 Holmes
    Round 7: 10-9 Norton
    Round 8: 10-9 Norton
    Round 9: 10-9 Norton
    Round 10: 10-9 Norton
    Round 11: 10-9 Norton
    Round 12: 10-10
    Round 13: 10-9 Holmes
    Round 14: 10-9 Norton
    Round 15: 10-9 Holmes

    144/143 Holmes

Notes on some of the rounds:

Round 5 was a great round and round 15 was one of the best rounds of boxing I've ever seen, edged to Holmes as he seemed to hurt Norton more than Norton could to Holmes. Round 10 was another close one that could have gone either way with 13 very similar. Just a great overall fight.
