  • Comments Thread For: Warren Eyes Fury-Chisora II in Outdoor Football Stadium

The old fight game is presently enjoying a renaissance in Britain with participation levels soaring close to a post war high and the emergence of as bright a crop of developing prospects as I can recall in four decades as a licence holder.

So I feel obliged to deliver a counter punch to a recent hatchet job on the sport to journalist Patrick Collins in the Mail on Sunday which slated the Noble Art as in ‘steep decline’.

Mr Collins – a former multiple sportswriter of the year who should know better – used to wax lyrical about the nobility of the sport and its boxers. However, he has finally come out of the closet and revealed his true colours.

Love it when Frank writes like this; praising all fighters, regardless of politics.

If anybody took the time and trouble to do a proper survey about this, rather than talking off the top of their heads like Patrick Collins, I think they would find that more casual sports fans watch boxing nowadys, via satellite, cable and internet, than ever they did back in the "halcyon" days when McGuigan and Bruno were on terrestrial tv.

From my own personal exprerience, I work in a big mail centre, with over 1000 other people. Most of those people are men, so sport is a major topic of conversation. Football is the sport most often discussed, but boxing is not far behind.

Recently, I was with a group of guys who were discussing Froch vs Groves. One of them told the others to shut up and listen to what I was saying, because being an ex boxer, I probably knew more about it than they did. "Boxing is getting as bad as football in this place." He said. "Every guy in this f***ing building seems to think he knows everything there is to know about it."

Not a proper survey, of course, just my own personal experience.

Absolutely horrible idea to have Fury Chisora II. No real fan wants to see that fight. The first one was great, but been there, done that. I'd root for Chisora but really there's no real reason to think the result will be much different this time around. Actually, with Chisora at a lighter weight and getting stung more often now, I think Fury may ko him this time. Either way, they are two top 10 fighters who have already fought each other, but have never indisputably beaten another clear top 10 HW (Chisora effectively beat Helenius but didn't get the decision, and Fury beat two other top 20ish HW's). I want to see them fight other top 10-15 HW's to reall see where they stand, not rehash an already done match that there's not even a real reason to think will turn out differently. Good match for Frank Warren's pocketbooks, bad match for boxing.

I very much doubt it sells out a stadium.

Chisora is an ok opponent for Tyson Fury, but Deontay Wilder is even better.

I'd watch it, but I'd rather see him against Wilder, Pulev, Perez or Ruiz Jr.

Oh behave Warren, nobody wants it so why talk it? Chisora lost to Fury already and it weren't that great a fight to watch.

We didn't get Haye and Fury, and Chisora vs Fury isn't a good substitute. Get Deontay in with Fury and the winner fights klitscho.
