In retrospect, how does Cortez let Marquez-Pac 1 continue, but stop Ishida-Kirkland?

If you try to find consistency in Joe Cortez, you'll fail.

Watching it again Kirkland could have continued but Cortez has never been consistent.

He's one of those high profile refs that always does things that get your attention.

Hopkins vs Calzaghe holding was allowed.
Hatton May holding split up almost straight away.
Ortiz May thing he didn't even see... which should never be the case
Khan was allowed to hold more VS Maidana

3 knockdown rule was not in effect for Kirk-Ishida. They said it on the video

Cortez should have duducted a point from Manny for hitting Marquez while he was down on that last knock down, fighters have been DQ'd for that.

Cortez was right to stop the Kirkland-ishida fight.

Kirkland needs to jab his way in.

if it's true, then cortez make a big blunder there. james did it to himself though. he should of held more instead of going balls to the walls.

i agree he was never as hurt as marquez.

and i you want more cortez fails, watch sotto-lorenzo.

Referees more than likely consider what is at stake. Kirkland v Ishida was supposed to be a tune up fight, so even if Kirkland could have clawed his way back into the fight it wouldn't have been worth putting more miles on his career.

I think what happened in pac vs marquez 1 could easily go both ways. It just so happen that cortes was in the mood to let the fight continue, he could have really stopped it legally. But the non-stoppage is good for the fans, they get to enjoy and get their moneys worth.
