Comments Thread For: Mendez Appeal Received By Minnesota Commission, IBF

An appeal filed on behalf of Argenis Mendez to the Minnesota Combative Sports Commission has been received and is officially under review, Boxingscene.com learned Thursday afternoon.

Mendez’ team is seeking to overrule the final result of his January 3 bout with Rances Barthelemy, which served as the headliner for the 2014 season premiere of ESPN2 Friday Night Fights, from a 2nd round knockout loss to a no-contest/no-decision. [Click Here To Read More]

It's gonna be real interesting to see how this all pans out. I understand there's a precedent for no-contests in this situation, from an old Marlon Starling fight. Barthelemy fouled, so the fight really should've been ruled a no-contest from the start; but Minnesota doesn't have a replay rule, so it's very possible that the ref's call stands. In other pro sports, if there's an undetected blown call during the game, the officials' call on the field stands.

IMO... they'll probably just issue a rematch.

I'm sorry but the dude was KO'd the last two 'illegal' punches were just the cherry on top of the cake. The ref was negligent that maybe enough to get it declared an NC though.

          LOL

He was on his feet when the bell sounded; he was NOT KO'd until the illegal punches landed. They caused the stoppage, and were not simply 'the cherry on top of the cake'.

Every controversial fight that gets reviewed never gets over turned.
The sanctioning bodies usually order an immediate rematch.
So the IBF will probably make Mendez #1 contender and Rances will have to fight Mendez again in he's first defense as IBF title holder.

I just read elsewhere that the Minnesota commission has until January 20 to render a verdict regarding Barthelemy-Mendez.
