I suspect that was part of the deal when they began quibbling over rights to Manny.

The current situation where absolutely no TR guys can fight GB guys is a recent thing that's happened in the past year or so.

EDIT: I know a lot of guys who had never heard of Pac thought DLH was going to win easy. I tried warm them what is store though.

The beef between TR and GBP had not reached its peak yet. That started around the time they began trying to put together Mayweather-Pacquaio in 2010.

Oscar publicly promised that he would fight the winner of Cotto-Margarito, fully expecting Cotto to win. When Margarito destroyed Cotto, Oscar suddenly got cold feet.

He was initially supposed to fight Mayweather in a rematch but Floyd backed out over money.

So he cherry picked Pacquaio who'd had one fight at lightweight and the rest is history...

It's not just people who had never heard of Pac, the vast majority of boxing pundits thought DLH would win, they said Pac was too small, DLH too big. They said it was a mismatch, they said Pac was a greedy lil ****er for even takin this fight and that DLH was a scrupulous prick. Heck, in the build up, Oscar was talkin about a fight with Hatton in Wembley LOOOL

I saw boxing "experts", Americans, British, Latinos, all of em say on tv that DLH wins, it's all a question of when. Then Pac beats him up and all of a sudden everyone claims they knew Pac would win and that Oscar was finished.

I was one of the few who thought that Pac had a chance...I even posted on another forum with a diff username, I'll try finding that post.

They made alot of great fights together between 07-09

                hatton-manny
                manny-mab 2
                manny-jmm 3
                cotto-shane
                margs-shane
                manny-oscar

And during this time, when everyone was getting along and making big fights, floyd mayweather was in a fake retirement, and only came back when TR and GBP were beefing

In regards to the fight itself,,

                  1. oscar had a retirement plan,,, tuneup on HBO vs forbes, rematch with floyd at 147 in sept, then a december farewell fight

                  2. Oscar thought he could reclaim past glory by going back down to welter, his forbes fight was at 150

                  3. floyd wanted 50/50 and oscar didnt, so the rematch never happened..

                  4. Oscar was going to call out a smaller fighter with a big name ie hatton, manny, MAB, etc in hopes of reclaiming some glory like in the mid 90s vs genaro, leija, chavez

                  5. manny accepted cause it was a huge payday, oscar thought he could make 147 much like how chad dawson thought he could make 168

                  6. manny accepted oscar's conditions, and manny smoked him,,, end of story,,, oscar miscalculated his ability to make 147,, had he stayed at 154 he probably would have had much better success

dela hoya doesn't really have problems doing business with arum. he even calls out arum every now and then to do gbp-top rank fights.

it's really schaefer who is beefing with arum and unfortunately it looks like it's no longer oscar calling the shots at gbp but schaefer
