    The current state of Boxing

It's been said, "People play Baseball, nobody plays Boxing."

That's true, its what makes this sport great. It's the closest thing we have to Gladitoral games. That's what got me hooked. The savage KO's from Mike Tyson, the inspiring fights of Jack Johnson, the attackers like Jack Demsey, Joe Fraizer, Rocky Merciano, Sonny Liston, George Foreman, Joe Louis, and those great comebacks of Ali.

Did you notice anything? All those Warriors are either retired or deceased. So when will someone in the HW divsion step up? When will we see another gladitor enter the ring? As a huge fan of classic Boxing, I have trouble finding a current HW boxer that fits the bill of the above fighters. What do you gentlemen think?

I think that u cant find anyone to compare to those guys because you are simply looking at the long division. There are many gladiatiors, warriors, and technical mastery below the hw division. And they offer increased speed, and longer stamina to boot.

    A few:

    Maywearther
    Morales
    Castillo
    Pacquiao
    Barrera
    Corrales
    Cotto

      Bull****.

Boxing is back on the map homes slice.

1.) We have superfeather, light, lightwelter divisions jam packed full of potential talent and exciting matchups.

2.) The 147 lb division is open for grabs; a great soap opera story full of compelling characters floating in and out.

3.) We are going to have an undisputed SMW champion soon.....result of the megafight in england

4.) We have an undisputed Cruiserweight champion...what makes this compelling is he can hand the titles over at any time. Nobody knows who and when.

5.)The heavyweight division is lacking in talent...but steps have been made to clear it up with a half ass tourney, or at least a set of fights between champions.

I don't want to hear another god damn word about how boxing is dead. It's more alive than it's been in 20 ****ing years.

**** Tyson. The sport is better without him.......and untill people realize that: they will still not like the sport for what it is. It was here before that dumb****.

I think he got this sport off it's knee back in 86'. We must at least credit him with that. Ya Tyson did do some ****** stuff, but that's what the "commoners" like. It draws some of them in like me. And then learned of the greatness of Jack Johnson, Rock Marciano, and ect.

Ya the other weight classes are GREAT! But the HW division is rather lackluster.

Yeah I apoligize for the rhetoric if you are a fan of Tyson's. I'm pretty bad about that.....I just get fed up sometimes.....

that's one hell of a response there man, and I agree about their greatness/ tyson's influence and yes:

Tyson took boxing off it's knees in 1986.

No need to be sorry bro. Boxing not really dieing, it's just the HW divison I'd like to see really bring it ti the table. But like you said about the tourny. Hopfully someone will have multiply belts and we can gage who the real champ is. I mean there's just so many dang belts.

Wasn't it Toney who said "You play football, you play hockey, you play basketball...man I don't play boxing." Great quote.

You and many other heavy weight fans need to come to the realisation that right now boxing is at a transition where it's the smaller divisions that are taking over, and the way it's looking with guys like Pac (only 27yrs) and other guys like hatton and cotto it's to last a while. Until we get another Ali or Tyson it's the small guys that give us fans what we pay for.

The only guy I heard say that was Ving Rames in the movie Undisputed. I didnt realize Toney said that.

People have always liked the heavier weights better. I had the same bias. Though I would watch the lower weight classes I never really got into it the way I am now. I admit, it was Hamed that did it for me. I wanted to see that little ****y fawker get beat. Then started following Corrales', Morales', Pacquiao's, Mayweather's, Barrera's, Arce's, etc, careers. The initial reason I did not follow the lightweights too much is I wasn't into watching anybody whos ass I could kick. I change my mind, I think any of these guys would whoop pretty much anyone on the street.
