Comments Thread For: Rubio vs. Spada Clash is Heading To a March Date

Mexico's Marco Antonio "Veneno" Rubio will face Italian Domenico Spada for the WBC middleweight interim title in March. This was decided because the current champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez is still recovering from injuries that he suffered during April's win over Martin Murray and had been unable to defend his title. Their promoters Oswaldo Kuchle and Salvatore Cherchi are in negotiations to define the venue of this championship fight and it is expected that they’ll reach an agreement soon.

Good to be a barely top 50 middleweight like Spada and keep getting title fights. No need to actually beat somebody to earn a shot when you're only there to lose

Shouldn't Martinez be stripped like Ward was since he can't defend his title?

But we all know why that isn't happening.

No, Martinez has to fight the winner of this fight. Even if Rubio loses, Spada will still be in the way. Of course, the only reason Rubio even has this ranking is because of WBC favoritism.

No its because he sued the WBC for not testing Chavez after then fight and won. He was then legally reinstated as the mando to the title.

Rubio was in a position to force Martinez to fight him and nobody else but it seems he took money to step off sos Cotto-Sergio can be made

He is very popular in Mexico. There's a reason Rubio-Chavez have the highest HBO rating in the last 5+ years, and its not just because of chavez
