Comments Thread For: Willie Limond Says New Year Could Be His Last in Boxing

Commonwealth junior welterweight champion Willie Limond (37-4, 10KOs), 34-years-old, is looking at the possibility of retirement in 2014 - unless a significant title shot comes along. Last year Limond captured the vacant Commonwealth title with a first round TKO of previously undefeated Eddie Doyle. He came back later in the year to win a twelve round unanimous decision over Mitch Prince.

Mature decision Willie. Go out on your own terms. People forget that in this sport that winning any sort of traditional title, such as the Commonwealth is a huge achievement. Willie is a solid pro and can be proud of his achievements.

Its not like most of them have boxed to know how much every win even as an amateur means to the guy in there taking the punishment. Willie is a top man.

Reason why traditional belts lost their glamor is cuz we have all these international/continental titles by the alphabet bodies to get fast tracked to top 10. Thats why you never hear about a North American or South American champ. Commonwealth council should do more to circulate beyond the Home Nations of the U.K.

Id luv to see British Champ vs Canadian champ for the Commonwealth belt type of match ups.

Spot on. I have often thought this myself. British champ v NA champ say. English v Canadian. Suppose money and politics prevent this. Would make the fights bigger though for sure; countries would get behind their man.
