It sounds remarkably like he used the appropriate Russian word, with even more sensitivity than most EEs use when trying to tell a story. It sounds like the story he was trying to tell was something like, "Oh, my worst opponent in the ring? I was sparring with this black guy. Stuff happened. He responded like a freak, went full thug, and pulled a piece. Not that there aren't bad people from every ethnic group, and there are a lot of disreputable coloured illegal immigrants in Florida.". That doesn't really sound like he has a raging hate of black people. In fact, it kind of sounds like he went out of his way to say that there are ******s everywhere, and that he may not have been an actual 'legal' American anyway. Compared to a lot of the EE / FSU types I've met that's positively sugar coating it for respectable American sensitivities.

Oh, and never talk to an EE who went through the 90s in the FSU about your problems.

The use of the N word is so absurd. I don't know it's give and take really but the main reason it's stuck in the northern culture of the US at least is from rappers and people growing up saying it. I went to a movie today and a bunch of black kids were screaming damn N**** OH **** RUN N****....man that N**** is crazy! The dude in the movie was ****ing mexican...regardless though it's used too much for it to drop out of use...and really it's not just the old timey racists down south...or that wannabe old timey racists up north (which is a rant for another day....you're southern yet you're from a northern inner city? Please you're just racist and like guns).

You're sugar coating it, dude. He pulled a classic "I'm not racist, but *insert something racist here*"

Racism is more than a word it's a mindset. Plenty of upper middle class white people wouldn't dare use the n word because it is politically incorrect. But if they saw a black person they would cross the street and feel uncomfortable.

I'm sure at least 90 % of people on this forum believe in freedom of religion but if you actually read the first testament of the bible or the Koran or any other religious literature it is coated in racism and racist sentiment.

Looks like when Sergey fought Grover Young, Young pulled a (in Kovalev's opinion) fake injury on him before the 4th, making it a technical draw and the only blemish on his record.

He saw him after and asked why wasn't he in intensive care because his antics suggested he was seriously hurt. Young said something about a rematch and Kovalev said something along lines of: "I was hurt that this "sunburnt" earned easy money off the fight."

                  Read the interview for youself.

Maybe. Je ne comprends pas, je suis Anglais. Though it does sound like a hard story to tell without broaching the subject of race. Layer that with the vagaries of a different language and cultural context (a long tradition of sefdom and totalitarian communism, not race based slavery), and you have a recipe for a 'grade A' fauxtroversy. I can't speak to the full extent of everything the man has ever said or written but it certainly doesn't seem like he has any great hate of black people.

In all honesty...Who gives a ****? I don't see why some people are getting all bent out of shape about a guy saying some racist ****. That's his opinion and bickering and moaning isn't going to magically change his outlook on things. PEople are racist ALL OVER THE WORLD, there's nothing that's going to change that. I'm black, in the military and have a Japanese wife with two half (hafu) Japanese kids. Myself and my kids get looked at in digust all the time by the local nationals here in Japan. I don't give two ****s. I've lived here for 7 years AND I plan on retiring here. Just my two cents.....
