What they say about Russians using the word 'negro' is true, there's a recent vice documentary on youtube about Russia where they comment on its usage.

Newcomers are shocked to see Russians call black people nyegr right to their faces. Everyone does it, even blacks.

Nyegr is an older Russian word derived from “Negro.” It’s still the best word available. They can’t use a term like “African-Russian” since most blacks in Moscow are not Russian but African students who forgot to go home. “Black” doesn’t work because “black” in Russian is chyorni and it refers disparagingly to people from the Caucasus. Actually, they’re called “black-asses.” After you see all the options, nyegri is actually pretty good.

Maybe the nyegr thing is understandable, but that guy's comment makes it sound like he went beyond that.

The word is not pronounced in russian the way it's spelled in english. Anyway the word is commonly used in russian and isnt taboo there like it is here

Yes he said the word but in russia it is completely acceptable and u rarely hear a black person referred to as black.

Anyway so many people think the word originated in America for ****** but it was used long before that in other parts of the world

Kovalev trains with American blacks many times they call each other the n word. Kovalev probably thought its normal. Like they say when in Rome do as the Romans do.
