What a coincidence bro, Vargas was my favorite boxer growing up too! I used to try to mimic his style in the gym because I loved how he fought. He was a master at cutting off the ring and pining people on the ropes, his combinations were so powerful because he knew how to move his body when he threw them, and everything about his style was just awesome. I used to love Victor Ortiz too because he reminded me of Vargas early on even though he's southpaw and smaller, I think they had lots of similarities. It's a shame that Fernando's career felt so short and I sure wish he were still fighting and in his prime today.

I was broken hearted when he lost to De la Hoya. I wanted that win so badly. His heart alone gave us many great fights.

Man, this dude gave me some great memories. I remember having to work (delivering pizzas) and I got to a customers house right when the (Trinidad) fight was getting ready to start. I expressed how pumped I was about the fight and the customer invited me in. I said in my head, I'll just stay for the first minute of the round (cause my brother was recording it for me at our apartment), then BAM the left hook from Trinidad!

I stayed for 3 rounds, lol. Then went home that night and watched a classic match!

Damn... I miss those days of boxing... things are just different now...

That's awesome dude, Vargas gave all of us who enjoyed watching his fights plenty of great memories. You can't help but wonder what would've happened had they not thrown him in that fight so early on or had Trinidad not used intentional low blows against him, I think history would be different today. I also think his career would've been longer were it not for the back/health problems he started to have towards the end of his career. But at the end of the day he still accomplished a lot so we are all proud of him and he's still considered the youngest junior middleweight champion ever in my book
