TBF in the Maidana fight he tried to anticipate a body shot and got dropped with a left hook.

That's one of my favorite points of the fight. Broner dropping his right arm in anticipation of the body shot and Maidana loops it upstairs

Broner looked smooth against mediocre opposition but sooner or later he had to step up. It should have come as no surprise that he was no Mayweather or he would have stepped up a long time ago.

How would you rate Adrien Broner footwork on a scale of one to ten.

Footwork is slightly above average.

Reflex is so so as well. That's why he don't counter that well.
He mostly move forward and backward with that same faked arse shouldah roll from Floyd. The dude doesn't moving his ****ing head at all.

EASY target. Will need major overhaul on his style to do much.

Didn't even look that smooth most of the time to be honest. He just blew guys out. The Quntero and PDL fights don't need to be rehashed again but it was clear from those alone that his feet were not good and that feints bothered/confused him.

His heavy feet wouldn't be such a major handicap if he could anticipate his opponent's moves better. But he can't, and that's the real problem. How are you going to be an in-the-pocket counter puncher if you don't have the instincts to tell you what's coming next? You can't. Even if you have an iron chin the top level boxers will still be a nightmare for you.

The reality was and is that Maidana was ideal for Broner if Broner was as advertised. Even if some flaws can be fixed, the fundamental deficiencies that fight exposed can't be. You can't just teach a guy to have the instincts of a great pocket fighter, certainly not in his mid-twenties. That's not to say Broner can't be a factor at 147, but if Marcos Maidana can fit through the gaps that are there then it doesn't suggest that more complete fighters are going to struggle with him.

I would rate it as a 5, to be a good counter puncher you need to know when to take a quick step back, and when to pivot out of the way so you won't get caught in the corner or ropes.
Broner could of easily avoided those feint punches by simply taking a step back and pivoting to the left or right.
