“We’re not going to chase Stevenson,” said Egis Klimas, Kovalev’s manager. “Other opportunities are going to come up for us to fight other guys, just like what happened with Bernard Hopkins and [Nathan] Cleverly. We had a mandatory [against Hopkins], but Hopkins was going back and forth, trying to put unification fights together, and he never answered us.
“Then the opportunity came up to fight Cleverly and we fought Cleverly. We didn’t care. This is the same thing with Stevenson. If he doesn’t want to fight, we’re not going to wait. If another opportunity comes up for us to fight, we’re not going to wait.”

People hate on Mayweather, but almost EVERY fighter who hits it big ends up being "smart" about how to pace their careers. Promoters don't want new stars taking on every risky challenge known to man, back to back. We even see it with Maidana. He just got a big win, but don't expect him to pick Lucas M., Bradley or Danny Garcia over Mayweather or Pacman. They bring the money and most reward for the risk. Same with Stevenson. He wants the money, more titles, some decent wins under his belt. I suspect the same for Kovalev if he gets that big victory over someone like Stevenson. His team will be looking for the big payday vs just taking a big risk to appease people.

Mayweather says it best. "Boxing is a business."

It's true and most of the people complaining are uneducated to the sports business end. It's like the people who hate on Mayweathers of the world for their business acumen would rather see boxers in tax problems like Pacquiao or broke and fighting beyond their years because they owe $ to a million women like Evander Holyfield. They don't understand that without the "business" end of things, without big "money" being generated for the big fights we want to see and without the proper strategic moves made to adhere to their financial aspirations, boxing would NOT be in the limelight anymore.

The sports popularity was dwindling for years until the new generation came in and started taking promotions to a higher level. You have to respect that, as the $$$ is the main thing keeping boxing more popular and more prestigious than it's combat sport counterpart, MMA. 40 mill for a fight CANNOT be bad under any circumstances, it just can't be. MMA will take a decade to get to the point where they have a fighter making that much for 1 fight. You tell me who's right and who's wrong.
