Makes sense. Has me doubting an actual injury. Floyds card needs to be stacked with Mexican firepower on a Mexican holiday to boost sales against an opponent nobody wants to see.

You shouldn't have... I only write two types of posts here: 1) denotative argumental; 2) "sarcastic" (literature of the absurd has deep roots in my country -- I.L. Caragiale in the 19th century, Urmuz, Dadaism, Eugène Ionesco...)

All Mares has to do is survive the first round, thats half the battle right there.
He will have to fight the perfect fight, but i possibly got Gonzalez winning this one too, unless Mares lands clean first, since Jhonny doesn't have the best chin.

I wish GBP would let Gary Russell Jr. fight Leo Santa Cruz on Mayweather's card instead of Mares/Gonzalez. That would be a great fight!

It "seems" really hard to come back from a one shot drop and eventual KO like the one Mares received, especially when you are fighting the exact same fighter in your next fight. I say seems because I am not a fighter so I can only speculate. I feel like if Mares can make it past the first few rounds than he can get into a groove and get used to taking a few shots but it is going to be really hard. Past evidence has often showed us that boxers who get knocked out by a fighter seemingly get buzzed easier by them in a rematch, so Mares will have to fight through that inevitable cob web phase and noodle legs that he will feel once JG lands a few solid shots.

What I am not hearing said though is that JG is going to have to show what he has and how well he can take Mares shots if and when it comes to that, because although he won the first fight, he has not yet tasted Mares power to know how he can handle it. That for him can have a shock factor that could sway the fights momentum for Mares. Especially if he can get past the early damage and fight through it because than he has a chance to get into his own rhythm and impose his will on Gonzalez.

I agree though and wouldnt be surprised if this fight conveniently ends up on the undercard of Mayweather vs TBA in May
