  • Comments Thread For: Hunter: Khan Will Surprise People Against Mayweather

British star Amir Khan (28-3, 19KOs) is still being named as the frontrunner to face pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. (45-0, 26KOs) on May 3rd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Khan is already being labeled as a huge underdog, but the former champion's trainer, Virgil Hunter, says his fighter is a very live dog in the contest and he is confident that Khan's performance in a fight with Mayweather will surprise a lot of people.

I get it...Khan got dropped on purpose to look weak and then lost a close fight to make Mayweather think he's easy pickings.... great plan

sure let's give the most undeserving fighter at 147 a money fight with mayweather because he might win the first two rounds. absolutely pathetic, this fight is indefensible if it happens.

This dude has done more to get Khan this fight than Khan himself has...but he's really starting to sound just like Cunningham..

Khan imo will hit harder at 147, he's grown bigger naturally, shud have moved up 3 fights ago,

His key to beat Floyd is to match him for speed, work the body and beat him to the jab, keep moving, distance

If he can make 50% of the fight competitive and make it to the end of the fight with his chin in tact, he can nick a SD

Floyd has been so dominant, that a performance where he looks like he is struggling will win favor with his opponent imo

The only real flaw Khan has is his chin, which is a big flaw to have, as he could be leading on the cards and be knocked out in round 12, however he needs to put on a polish strict performance like he did against Zab, and Paulie

He's not even a 147 fighter. At least Pac does catchweights, Floyd makes smaller guys fight out of their division (Marquez, Hatton etc.) or makes bigger guys cut down (Canelo). If he had balls he'd fight Martinez.

Good thing with Khan is he always comes to fight and probably has faster hands than Floyd. The problem is his reflexes aren't as good and his defense disappears after a few rounds, so he gets caught too much for someone with a questionable chin. Even though Floyd isn't a puncher it doesn't matter when someone leaves themselves exposed as often as Khan does. He'll walk into something at some point.
