If not, they may have to bite the bullet and make the Ward bout.
I think this is kinda the issue here - GGGs trying to get the super title so that they can fight Murray - but when the time is right. After the Martinez performance, Murray looks like the best available fight out there for GGG, but if the WBA force the issue now a situation arises where Murray may not have the time available to get his visa sorted out and probably would simply turn down a 25/75 purse bid and vacate his interim.

Potentially they could always make the Murray fight later, but then GGG might have to defend against the likes of Nielson or Chudinov as a mandatory, and that is something HBO and K2 really don't want to happen.

In short GGG (or more especially HBO) doesn't want to 'waste' a fight on a relatively unknown mandatory opponent. With Adama, Golovkin may, in part, be 'taking care of business' for his IBO mando - (Adama is #3) - by using up an off HBO date. If he's able to fight Geale (IBO #1) later so much the better.

How does getting the super help?
And Murray will absolutely turn down a 75-25 purse bid
If that where to happen, Murray would've been stripped... as he should have been after not fighting after Martinez.

Geale is free too, but he's waiting to see who Sturm fights, like everybody else is.

As for Ward. I don't even see him as an option because he's suing Goosen again and I don't see him winning that court battle... so who knows how long he's off the shelf for this

The IBO belt means nothing, and their mandatories will not matter

The idea of the Super belt is to avoid mandatories, Super champions have 18 months to face the regular champion. The best way to enforce a fight within WBA is the interim-regular champion route as they are usually enforced in good time.

This move by WBA is surprising...I think they are succumbing to pressure here. Either this, or we will see what I fear recently - the introduction of interim Super champion.

I don't think Murray is the interim WBA champion, despite what boxrec states...this makes no sense if Chudinov is fighting for this title

Chudinov thought he won the interim while Murray was supposedly stripped while also fighting for the regular in February....
The Chudinov fight is evidently an eliminator...for the interim belt... THE HELL!?

They would do whatever it takes to minimise Golovkin, wait for him to get older and slow down -- or get badly injured (like Pirog, for instance)... The same would go for Kovalev...

The super helps by letting him fight his mandos less often - in effect it means that HBO can air the fights they want him in (GGG - Murray) rather than having to 'waste' slots on fights they think people won't be interested in (ie GGG - Chudinov).

Arguably it might have even been possible to still have Murray as a mando fight (if he hasn't already been stripped of interim status) - with the extended time between mandos - which may be why this came up so soon after the Chudinov win.

Does anyone know the actual status of the interim champ at the moment BTW - is it still Murray, now Chudinov or (as I've heard some suggest) gonna be fought over between Murray, Chudinov or possibly someone else?
