The Committee of Championships of the World Boxing Association ordered negotiations for the rematch bout between the super bantamweight interim-champion Nehomar Cermeno (22-5-1, 13KOs) and Oscar Escandon (22-1, 15KOs).
The first fight between Cermeno and Escandon for the interim title was staged in Panama, on the 10th of August. Cermeno won a close twelve round split decision over the previously undefeated Cermeno.
