Comments Thread For: Gonzalez Hopes Abner Mares Will Last Longer Than One

WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs) is hoping that his rematch with Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs), scheduled for February 15th at Staples Center in Los Angeles, will last longer than one round.

The first time they met, on August 24th at the StubHub Center, Gonzalez caught Mares cold in the first round and finished him off a few moments later. Mares was down twice before the fight was waved off and the boxing observers were shocked with the outcome.

I'm expecting 2 come out moving & far more cautious...still Jhonny can box, he did this a little more than a year ago when he beat Elio Rojas in Cancun...

Gonzalez better hope it doesn't last much longer than 1 or 2 rounds.

if Mares can get his low blows and kidney punching started, Gonzalez will have a hard time dealing with the illegal blows.

I'm looking forward to this one. Mares has to redeem himself. But Jhonny can seriously hurt Mares, who's small for 126. I expect Mares to be way more cautious of course, try to box, and take it to the later rounds.

Mares might be too small for the weight. Caught cold or not, Gonzales hurt him pretty easily the first time. That is hard to overcome. I will be interested to see if The Little Engine that could can make a comeback and take his belt back. Will be a very entertaining fight however it unfolds, that i believe.

Pretty easily? That was a monster punch that Mares was not ready for.

I think Mares adjusts and takes a UD this time.
