Joe Calzaghe v Andre Ward

Was watching Calzaghe v Hopkins and Jones Jr vids on youtube and came across a comment saying Calzaghe v Ward would have been a good watch - who agrees? I will include a poll...

I voted that Joe would outpoint Ward. Joe was a very smart fighter but unlike Ward he did not illegally hold and hit. Joe had quick accurate punches that he threw in huge numbers from all angles. Joe was not a big puncher but neither is Ward. I remember what a number he did on a prime Lacy. He would not beat Ward that easily but I believe he would beat Ward. He was too fast, too smart, and threw too many punches for Ward.

I think if a past prime Hopkins have Joe that much trouble, a prime Ward would beat him. Good fight though

This would be as close as a fight can possibly be. No way there's a KO, and Calzaghe would be very active with his slaps.

Yeah, I agree with all your posts so far, would have been a really tight matchup - both guys would have a chance of getting the W but most likely it would come via a decision for either guy, and I also think this could really be decided by a slight increase or decrease in either guy's performance on the night, whoever would just perform slightly better would get the win.

It would be a good fight, but I dunno, gut feeling says Ward takes this one, would end up being a very close fight though. SD with a few debatable rounds type of close maybe..

People keep commenting that this would be akin to Cal/Hops but it won't. Ward is a tab more aggressive, he hits harder and has better hand speed but Calzaghe is faster, has better footwork, a terrific chin and a much better work rate. Ward has the tools to make this difficult and a somewhat entertaining affair but I think King Joe gets a win here. He is the best in the division's history, bar none.
