That was very unfortunate, and something that should force the powers that be to reevaluate how crucial and desperately necessary reforms in boxing is and finally come through on solutions.

Can't say if anyone did their jobs incompetently before the fact, but there certainly had to be a doctor who analysed him properly, and seeing no immediately, noticeable and potential detrimental effects of such trauma, sent him on his way believing he would recover just fine as have other athletes caught in similar situations.

This will be a sad Christmas for his family and loved ones.

What really sucks about this fight is that it was very competitive, not as lopsided as many say, and Mago was landing bombs in the final rounds. Not too many trainers would have stopped this. The ringside doctors, however, should have spotted how uncomfortable he was in rounds 6 and 7.

I wish him a speedy recovery!

Mago didn't win a round after the 4th and his face was becoming disfigured as he was getting beaten up. You're right though, not many trainers would have stopped it and that's the problem, you can't rely on them, they're too invested, both financially and competitively.

As things stand a fighter can't rely on his corner, he can't rely the referee, he can't rely on the ring doctor and he can't even rely on his post-fight care...he's all at sea. This is boxing in 2013 and it isn't right.

I watched this fight. They should have stopped it earlier. I love boxing but I don't like seeing people seriously injured. Shame on the new York commission for not providing the treatment this man deserved. Life is tough

Too many people who could it stop the fight that night. We'll let beging with the trainer, manager, second, and cutman those are the primary people who supposed to protected the fighter. Then you can move to the referee, commission etc.. And see who drop the ball. But at this time it's too late, the fighter payed the price for been a warrior, now let's other pay the price for allowed him continue to fight after the 2nd round and beyond.

Very sad that he's still in a terrible state but it's not long since people were saying he'd never wake up (and one idiot posted on here that he'd died). He's a real fighter so let's hope he can continue to move forward on the long road he's on.

I rewatched this fight last night, it's really tragic watching the fight develop with the hindsight of the aftermath and consequences in mind. Terribly tragedy. He took a beating. The whole left side of his face was swollen.
