      Godspeed Champ!

Mago, you are a Champion to your family for fighting to stay alive for them. My prayers go out to you and your family for a recovery and at least many years to come with your loved ones. I pray that you get well enough to enjoy seeing your daughters grow up and I wish you all the best!

      С Рождеством!

I'm praying for mago. The fight doesn't end when he gets out of hospital. I hope he gets the long term care he needs and deserves.
BTW, Thomas Hauser is, imo, the best boxing writer out there. No one else gets quotes from fighters like the one he did from Hopkins.
Fighters talk to him. They trust him. Because they know he a legit writer, genuine, and he tells it like it is.
Unlike a lot of the BS artists these days.
I highly recommend Hausers year-end review books, and especially his finest work, Muhammad Ali's Life And Times.

Well-written article. Makes me angry to hear about the lack of action from the New York commission.

In a sorry chain of events, the most devastating fact is that Magomed's corner and the referee didn't stop the fight earlier. But I'm not really trying to point fingers. The fact is we're all to blame.

I'm just hoping Magomed beats the odds, that he's able to walk and talk and live a reasonably normal life. His career might be over, but his life needn't be.
              +1

While it does need to be addressed, I think there's a disproportionate focus on post-fight events in this article. The real damage was done in the ring, Abdusalamov clearly wasn't comfortable between rounds.

Boxing needs to change and it's been discussed for years, but it seems no one who counts is interested.

Maybe the "face of boxing" should step up and use some of his millions to help one of his peers in time of need? oh wait, he's too busy making fun of Paqcuio and buying $45,000 luggage to worry about Mago.

what a sorry representative boxing has....a damn shame

The boxer is surrounded by people on whom he relies to look after his best interests. They are even closer to him that ring doctors and commission chairmen. The responsibility is only on the ring doctor that he didn't stop the fight when he should have. He is the one with specialist experience and the most important part of the boxer protection group.

As for the deep cavity on the left side of the head. I have always understood
that the removed skull part can be kept in solution and replaced when the haematoma is removed and the brain swelling has sufficiently reduced. This hasn't happened here...I wonder why?

And i am reminded of the former world champion Eugene Criqui, who fought much of his career with a silver plate in his jaw courtesy of WW1 battle injuries. And doesn't Barrera have a silver plate in his head...??
