James Toney wasn't himself. He was weight-drained and mentally something was messed up wit him.

Yea, he beat Bernard no doubt, BUT WHY NOT rematch him again INSTEAD OF FIGHTING NOBODIES.

We can make a poll here W/OUT the help of non boxing fans that MANY WILL SAY Tarver shoulda won the 1st fight.

manny ive seen the fight more than once. theres just no way tarver won. roy was moving up in weight and fought number one contenders. where he was in his career, it was not wise to move down and take 50/50 against bhop. he said he would fight him for 60/40 but bhop declined, and instead roy beat woods then went up to hw and made history.

even toney admits that roy just plain out kicked his ass. he doesnt offer any excuses.

I was never a Roy Jones fan....meaning, I pretty much rooted against him in every fight.
But, there's no doubt he was a great fighter, unbelievable most of the time.
Those who dismiss him.....Think about how long he was the conscensus lb4lb best ? Think about the way he dominated everyone. Think about how amazed you were when an opponent had a brief moment of success against him.

I never doubted his ability....& my problem with him wasn't his opposition. I did have a problem with how he approached his oposition, especially after 2000. I thought he fought far too passively, far too often...& it pissed me off, considering his talent advantage was huge.

I didn't like him, but never denied him.

I disagree on several counts. Ruiz had as good a claim to the heavyweight title as anyone, and was more consistent than some of the other champs.

Hopkins didn't want any part of Roy, and that is just a fact. He demanded an even purse against guy that had beat him. Hops woulda got $6 million for the rematch. It is highly misleading to say "Roy never rematched Hops" as if Roy didn't want to.

Toney came in overweight and had a habit of not taking care of himself before he fought Roy. And guess what, he WON until Roy came along. People like to overlook the **** Roy went through to face Tarver but the moment the oppurtunity arises they point out that Toney "wasn't himself".

As for Tarver, what exactly does "many" mean? From all the polls on various websites, 70-80% of fans feel Roy won.

From the clips Ive seen, HOPKINS WANTED ROY fo an even spilt. 60-40 IS RIDICULOUS. Hop was champ, Roy was champ, then spilt it, but Roy didn't want it. Kept sayin 60-40. And Hop was right on many things. WHAT HAS JONES JR done at that point to demand 60-40?!

We know there was controversy when he fought Tarver. Don't act like Jones Jr put a shut out. If anything, Jones Jr was the one who came out wit his face beaten, and dint look so psyche as if he had lost.

heres the thing manny, you forgot to add that roy had alreadly beaten roy once. toney isnt making excuses, so you shouldnt either
