Ted Raymi pitched the idea that they have this fight on national tv, rather than closed-circuit PPV. His reasoning was that the amount of money Shotime/HBO would make in advertisement that way would TRUMP ppv sales.

For the sake and future of boxing in terms of popularity, I think it's worth it. The only concern is whether or not the fight will live up to the hype.
