Comments Thread For: Mathebula Ready For Martinez, Last Chance at World Belt

By Jake Donovan - A 34-year old challenger hits the road in pursuit of a second title reign in the super bantamweight division. Fighting away from home has not been a favorable scenario for the aging ex-titlist, who has previously come up short in his lone two fights outside of his home country. This particular fight comes on the heels of a nine-month period of inactivity, that bout his lone ring appearance in the past 17 months since his title reign came to a disappointing end.

Yes, Jeffrey Mathebula has Kiko Martinez exactly where he wants him.

On paper, it can be assumed that the deck is stacked against Mathebula, who vies for his old title in tonight’s showdown with Martinez. The title fight takes place in Elche, Spain, giving Martinez home field advantage for the first defense of the belt he won in emphatic fashion over the summer in the United States. Last month we inform you that the current world champion bantamweight IBF Kiko Martinez defend his title against Jeffrey Mathebula.

The scheduled date is 21 December and finally confirmed the venue. It will be in Elche, Spanish municipality located in the province of Alicante, in Valencia, Spain.

Ticket sales begin on 21 November in both box office and on the website of the developer Wonder Box.

It is expected that the enclosure with capacity of 4 thousand people fill out to see Kiko Martinez defend his world title.

Unfortunately, this fight will not be televised.

Hard to believe this world title fight isn't being televised, even in Spain, in this day and age.
