  • When/Why did Boxing stop being about proving who is really the Best?

Serious question here is it the promoters fault, or the networks maybe the fighters, and when or what happened to get it to the point where it was noticeable for you?

Anybody who thinks it is still is about that (which to me is a naive view) please explain why.

Right around the time fans started campaigning for the fighters making business choices and battling each other about which fighter makes the most money. And who sells more ppv and where the (next) ppv star will come from and why it's ok to duck because said fighter poses too much risk but not enough reward.

I agree i really cant say the exact time but it has been years in the making to get to what it has become today the funny thing is now we end up with what i call " imaginary best fighters" all across boxing who we are told are the best or the next best thing but really have not done **** to prove it.

Interesting. Is Floyd the only mega star that did those things?

Really ? Your opinion is that Floyd Mayweather alone shaped the culture to what it is today? Idk if such a thing can be attributed to one guy if you are right then he is the most influential fighter in boxing history regardless whether we like the outcome of it or not.

Pacquaio did it too, but the face of boxing is who gets the blame. Mayweather has a plethora of fighters to chose from where as Pacquaio only has a select few.
