Comments Thread For: Jhonny Gonzalez Aiming To Lay Abner Mares Out Again

The punch Gonzalez landed on Mares wasn't luck at all. In fact, Maidana landed a similar left hook on Broner that put him down. Mares gets stopped again. He's never been a defensive wizard & gets hit often. He's a good action fighter but that'll be his undoing in this fight. At some point in the fight he's going to get nailed with something big from Gonzalez.

I don't really believe in lucky punches -- Jhonny deserves credit for the KO -- but it's also true that anyone can get caught. Mares might very well avoid a big punch and do what he was expected to do the first time around. Then again, Gonzalez might've gotten in Abner's head. Either way, I'm looking forward to knowing the answers.

Ive noticed mares can adapt...he pressures when he shoyld or boxes when he shoyld like against ponce de leon...but i think gonzalez is jyst too strong for him and im sure hes going to train even hardet to prove it was no luck

This may end up best fight of '14... if Mares comes out and does well for a few rounds. Gonzales though should eventually connected with one of his patented G-Bombs... then it's off to sleepyland for Mares... AGAIN. HA

Keep in mind that mares was the champ and had a rematch clause on top of the fact that nothing really happened in that round other than two great shots landed by Gonzales.
