More than any other fight that could be made in boxing, I want to see Kovalev vs. Stevenson.
Why does Stevenson not want to unify?Comment

WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev (23-0-1, 21KOs) continues to hold out hope that he will be able to unify titles with WBC light heavyweight champion Andonis Stevenson.
The two fighters fought on the same card on November 30th in Quebec City, Canada. Kovalev stopped Ismayl Sillakh in two rounds while Stevenson stopped Tony Bellew in six. Kovalev fought in the co-featured fight and said that he made a point to watch Stevenson's fight which immediately followed.

Anyway.. Kovalev KO of Silakh for me is KOTY.Comment

That's a big domestic fight... I don't care if him and Pascal are friends.Comment

It's not totally original is it tho? Kovalev's with main events and Duva tried to christen Curtis Stevens as Kryptonite for the GGG fight. Didn't really catch on...doubt it will for Kovalev either, but at least they're trying to push the fight I guess.Comment

He has specifically said that he knows there's good and bad people of all races - but he apparently called Grover Young (the guy who gave him the Draw on his record) a 'purebed ni##er' after he pretended Kovalev landed an illegal punch (which led to the fight being declared a draw).
There was also some comment about not always getting along with the 'sunburnt' people in Florida - this is translation from a Russian interview though, and I get the impression that this is not an uncommon Russian euphemism.
The impression I get is that Kovalev is in no way an active racist but both his cultural background - (I think there's simply a level of endemic racism in Russia that probably led to him being less cautious than he would have been had he been interviewed in English) and the fact he seems to have been chosen as a posterboy by at least one white supremacist website (through no choice of his own) has led to some attention being given to these comments.
Not that it's particularly relevent, but these comments were made a coupla years ago in Russian at a time when Kovalev was still fighting almost club level fights wherever he could find them. They were brought to the attention of internet users by some Kazakh fans apparently trying to discredit him after he criticised Beibut Shumenov for holding his WBA LHW belt hostage (which is true).Comment
