He just got knocked down twice by a sloppier puncher in Maidana. Matthysse throws straighter punches and is more economical, likely punches as hard as Maidana but because he's so patient and more of a stalker, who is rarely hurt or KD'ed(Garcia was first KD?), he will end up being tougher than Maidana. And i'm not even saying Matt is better than Maidana, I just mean vs Broner, Matthysse could end up doing even better than Maidana.

If you are Broner's team and want to build him up again while doing against respectable gatekeepers/journeymen, you should look for fighters like Judah, Soto-Karass, Aydin, Josesito Lopez.

Broner doesn't have a jab and prefers short shots. There is no way he beats Matthysse, Matty has a tight d and has shown good fundamentals with catching shots and delivering back.

They should pit him with Josesito Lopez, should be a win for Broner and Lopez gets another paycheck. Judah would be acceptable.

And even then, Lopez isn't even an easy fight. I wouldn't be comfortable betting on Broner to beat Lopez after seeing him against Quintero, Rees, PDL, Malignaggi and Maidana. Lopez is not just a guy who's coming for a pay check, he's going to fight and he has a lot of fight in him. In fact despite him fighting for only 6 rounds against Maidana to Broner's 12 rounds, Lopez did considerably more damage to Maidana than Broner did. He really hurt Maidana and had him looking nervous and backing up in a couple of rounds. But Maidana is a machine, he always comes back.

mathysse would do a serious number on him. broner's not shy though. it wouldn't shock me at all if he chose matthysse but, realistically speaking, i doubt his handlers put him in there with someone as dangerous as matthysse.
