Former junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs) expects to face Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto (38-4, 31KOs) at some point in his career.

Canelo wanted to face Cotto on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Golden Boy Promotions offered $10 million dollars for the fight, but there was a conflict with the date. Cotto is not able to get ready in time for the March date, and has no plans to return before June. And Canelo had no intention of waiting until June to make his 2014 debut. Canelo has three set dates in 2014, with the second date coming in July, and wanted to keep his schedule intact.

This reassures Cotto that Martinez is the right choice. Canelo will be there for a couple of years, Martinez will not. Cotto has the perfect momentum and circumstances in his favor to get that title and make PR boxing history.

Cornelo should of been made to fight Cotto before Mayweather because he clearly wasn't ready but than again seeing his performance I don't think he would ever be able to beat Mayweather, so he should fight Cotto sooner than later when Cotto's older, Cornelo's just a spoiled brat who never fought any real competition he got the easiest road to Mayweather and got embarrassed.

Since when did I said Cotto wasn't fighting Canelo at all, that the Martinez fight was pretty much done?

Cotto is in a better position fighting Martinez, and he will make a bigger hare of the $$$ meaning more money vs Canelo. Right now it would be 55-45 share for Cotto if he fights Canelo, if Cotto beats Martinez he will get a bigger share against Canelo.

I prefer a Cotto/Canelo bout. But I think the that the Cotto camp are taking on Martinez on the right time. If Cotto loses and depends how he loses he still might be viable for a Canelo fight
