Comments Thread For: Kovalev feels his resume is comparable to Stevenson's

BoxingScene.com was on hand for a recent media roundtable with WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev in Atlantic City, NJ. The 30-year-old Kovalev spoke on a variety of topics including a potential showdown with WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson. Kovalev is very interested in the fight but Stevenson feels that there are bigger fights out there that can be made. [Click Here To Read More]

I agree with everything Kovalev said about Stevenson's resume and about Stevenson viewing him as a potentially dangerous opponent. However what Kovalev and his promoter don't understand is that Stevenson is 36,so he doesn't have the luxury that Kovalev has in the event of a loss to pick up and start back over.Stevenson has two or three years max to get as much out of his career as he can before he starts to physically decline,(Hopkins is an anomaly)so unless Hbo puts up Ward or Bradley level money I don't mind him taking a fight against Fonfara or the Pascal/Bute winner before a fight with Kovalev.

Steveson win over Dawson makes his resume a little better. Otherwise Kovalev's wins over Cleverly and Campillo are clearly better then anything else Stevenson has done

Kovalev is way to mobil for stevenson, he also has one of the most balanced footwork i have seen in a light heavy in a long time.
Combined with great timing and great power and I dont see anyone right now beating him.

Ward would have to be in his face and wresle him or he is getting koed

H2H i favor kovolev over stevenson via mid rounds ko

but in terms of resume, I favor stevenson slightly, mainly due to he did beat a top champ in dawson, plus he was hughly ranked at SMW, before his run at lhw

Kovolev has alitte better depth and the top end of the resume, he lacks a career defining win like stevenson was with dawson, but beating sillyah, cleverly, campillo is a nice group of wins to have under your belt..

I still favor stevenson simply because its very close, but i think stevenson has the biggest win out of both of them

not really...seeing as dawson was coming off a devastating loss to ward (hindsight weight issues aside)

kovalev's last four wins were against fighters who were back on winning streaks (consensus is campillo did not lose to cloud) which to me concludes to their resumes being comparable

                  You are very close, chap...

(In fact Kovalev's best "résumé" is that nobody wants to face him...)

I agree with you on everything you said except ward getting ko'ed by kov if he doesnt wrestle him. Ward is a very skillfull fighter, and his olympic gold medal proofs that. Kovalev wasnt close to wards level in the amateurs, and if im not misstaken korobov was one of many to keep kovalev out of the big tournaments. With that said, i think ward outboxes kovalev pretty easy.
