As I called yesterday, Vitali was forced into a (IMO) half-hearted decision by the WBC, but did the correct thing for boxing by vacating and himself by retaining the 'insurance policy' of another theoretical fight.
Specifically, the reason I think he took this (just a theory) is not for himself in terms of any status importance, but I believe this is the big brother and family syndrome again - whoever fights for this vacant belt will likely fight Wlad at some point in a unification fight - if Wlad were to lose this or win but lose in the future, I believe Vitali wants that security, the same that is written into most Klitschko contracts of the rematch clause, if one brother loses the other has the option for the rematch. The next 6 months I think will be very hectic with the vacant belt being fought for, and more developments on the political front giving us a better view of the future. Personally, I do not see Vitali coming back to the ring but you never know...would be really something if he did and became a 4 time world champ, or who knows, maybe even a fully unified 4-time champ. All might seem a bit far-fetched but who knows...
For the vacant title, personally I would be interested in seeing a tournament starting between Stiverne-Jennings, and Wilder-Arreola...would be most balanced IMO and possibility of good match-ups. This would also please the American fans and create more buzz in that region for the heavyweights again. Also, I think more fights between the contenders would really be a more accurate way of establishing who is really the best and actually deserves the title, not just a shot based on a few wins. After that, a unification fight with Wlad would be a massive event. Hopefully we will see exciting times now in the division, but still be ready or wary of any possibilities in the near future. Leave your comments and thoughts on whether you agree/disagree with my theory and who you would like fighting each other!
