Don't know what it is, but if its smelling salts pretty common in sports. Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Carlos Boozer, and Tom Brady are notable athletes who have used them during games.
Smelling salts are illegal in some states when it pertains to boxing, so it could raise questions, but I alas have no idea.

It happened right after the 11th round. I just watched it on slow mo on my HD copy. There absolutely nothing on top of the napkins so it would be hard to prove he took anything. It did kind of look like there might have been a pill inbetween the two napkins and you can kind of see Ariza manuring it around with this fingers so it's right on the edge of the napkins before he puts it near Maidana's mouth. Could be nothing though.
It's nothing, of course... That's why he did all that -- just "for nothing"...

Fan of both fighters so no dog in fight but that video it does appear he grabs something from under napkin and is holding it while cupping napkin right before he wipes nose. Maybe I'm seeing things but I see the reason for questions being asked.
