to discount the effect of race on the perception of jack johnson is complete ignorance. johnson was viciously hated for marrying a white woman, being wealthy. white men don't get death threats for marrying a white woman. that's racism.

frazier was seen as a polar opposite of ali, and a more "complacent" black man. that's racism.

race has huge implications on boxing, especailly as you go further back in history. it always has, and it probably always will.

there wouldn't be any meaningful discussion going on anyway. who in NSB can really talk about jack johnson, anyway? there's NE telling it like it is/was, and ignorant people either learning something, or becoming more ignorant and sticking their fingers in their ears.

i never discounted the behavior of adrian broner. i didn't discount his blackness, either. both are responsible for the hatred he recieves. it's obviously impossible to quantify the causes of the hatred.


to discount the impact of broner's blackness on the level of hatred he recieves is ignorant. i'm not saying that everybody who doesn't like broner is racist. i am saying that a sturdy portion of the "broner haters" hate him in part because of his race.

this isnt' just a phenomenon of blackness, either. some blacks discredit white fighters, mexicans, asians, etc. some mexicans discredit blacks, asians, whites.
