Big cong**** to Maidana for a hard fought victory. He got tagged after the bell in round 11, hadn't fully recovered, and then early in the 12th he got caught with a great Broner right and he was ready to go down (he started backing up immediately). He made it through the round despite the fatigue. Tough guy!
Broner missed his chance to create a memorable comeback.
Instead, like a wet noodle he drops to the canvas several seconds after Maidana's head butt to gain recovery time and sympathy from the ref (who correctly told him to get up and then inexplicably let him rest in the neutral corner for 20 seconds... WTF).
Broner's punch output was insufficient because he's not a defensive specialist who does not get hit.
The kid is a talented WW but he's not an elite fighter at any weight class. Yet.
Maidana can leverage this win for a better payday. If a rematch doesn't net him A-side money, then let Broner stew in his embarrassing loss.
