HBO & WBC ruined Floyds legacy....?

When Floyd beat Oscar on HBO he became their cash cow. Aslong as he kept winning, the ppv's would keep rolling in. I think it was this conflict of interest (between earning revenue but ensuring that Floyd was in competitive fights) that allowed Floyd Mayweather to pretty much handpick his opponents.

The WBC were complicit in this (of course) and never contemplated stripping him if he didn't fight the best guys in his division (Cotto, Margarito,Pacquiou).

Consider this - if you hold a belt but refuse to fight any Top Rank fighters, how come no Top Rank fighter was ever made his mandatory?

Now Floyd only has a couple of fights left, it no longer matters. However, I just hope HBO/Showtime never allow another boxer to pick his opponents. They must demand competitive fights for the good of the sport.

    Thoughts?

I agree with TS completely. I blame the sanctioning body a bit more than the networks their ultimate goal is to get eyea to the sets and with Floyd and Pac at that time theybwere guaranteed 1mil plus per PPV no matter who they fought. I put thebonusbon the bodies to make those truly worthy of being the top contender to a belt a legit one. Too much newly created belts, super champs, interim champs etc. Yes, Floyd and Pac were/are the two biggest names in the sport but they shouldn't be ABOVE the sport. That farce of a 154 title fight between Margarito-Pac should've been the bottom line but nobody really said crap except give kudos to Pacquiao for conquering his 8th division. It's a shame that boxing is so chock full of corruption starting with the sanctioning bodies for starters SMDH.
