      C'mon man.
I think you blew this out of proportion. It was a lighthearted comment made to sell the idea on why a 13-1 guy should fight a 48-year old guy without even thinking twice about it. A) Legend - when Hopkins gets beat, it's rare and there is a small club of fighters who can make that claim B) He is the IBF Title holder.

Even the more reason for B-hop to strip him of his title. Hopkins at this stage is ENTITLED to take out a guy like this. If either Kovalev or Stevenson tried to unify titles with this guy (Shumenov), that would be another story. Those two just arrived and haven't been around. They need to fight each other to see who the superior knockout artist is. Hopkins on the other hand is ENTITLED to sit back, relax, defend his IBF and try to unify with the WBA if the opportunity is there, until he can fight the winner of Stevenson/Kovalev.

He certainly doesn't have to fight both Kovalev and Stevenson to prove himself.

If he doesn't have to prove anything and shouldn't have to fight Stevenson/Kovalev.... shouldn't he retire? He's active and a world champion, Shumenov isn't a bad fight he's better than cloud but... Idk, the whole "He's so legendary he should get to fight whoever" argument is getting old for me. It's not like he's RJJ now who's of course an ATG, no hopkins can actually still fight the best out there and holds a belt still.

I didn't say, "He's so legendary he should get to fight whoever", you did.

I said that at age 49, he is soo' accomplished that you don't hold him to the same standard as Stevenson or Kovalev. These are the new faces. Two years ago, we didn't even know who they were when Hopkins was embroiled in rematches against Pascal and Chad Dawson (Two young and fast fighters) for the Light-Heavyweight Title.

If the idea is that he has to step in and try to take out Kovalev and Stevenson individually, then I disagree. They need to fight each other and if they don't, Hopkins is more than entitled to cherry pick title defenses and try to unify with the weak Shumenov to increase his standing at 175 (statistically).

Ok, that clarifies it a bit more. Atleast you say it how it is and don't try to hype up his past title defenses and shumenov... I can respect that.

i like the idea of hopkins taking a shumenov fight for one reason

i like it because itll give him an opportunity to kill some time and stay busy until he turns 50. i would like to see hopkins vs stevenson/kovalev at the age of 50.

i think it would be more historic in the event that he wins (unlikely) being that hes now in a new decade. i also think hed be more motivated to pull it off at 50.

even though its only a 1 year difference, theres a big difference between 49 and 50. it just sounds "older" lol ...id love hopkins to kill some time against this bum for another year...i say hopkins vs shumenov in june 2014, and then hopkins vs stevenson/kovalev in feb 2015

Hopkins is a legend, everybody knows this so he has every right to say he is. Don't get how anyone would have. A problem with this hahaha

making good money fighting and picking the opponents he wants
I would like this to be elaborated further. I hope this poster is not insinuating that Hopkins is cherrypicking?

Hopkins last 5 fighters he's faced, he has "chosen" to fight #7 Karo Murat, #3 Tavoris Cloud, top 3 Chad Dawson 2x, champion Jean Pascal 2x.

So I really hope you are not trying to say that Hopkins is picking easy fights.
