Too much obsession with ratings numbers and star status. What can be expected from posers that dont have a real appreciation from the sport?

Some cards are more exciting than others, have different styles and different expectations. It isnt black and white. But then again idiots always oversimplify.

The biggest boxing story in 2013 has been the competition between the major networks and promoters and the affect its had on the quality of boxing related programming.

I dont think you are an idiot...but you are oversimplifying. Furthermore, you are hi******* a different point. I'm speaking to the "fans" that rate a fights worth on how many other people watched it.

No, I'm not. The major storyline is for the year is ratings and competition. Period. The fact ratings on both cards were very low coming off a year where ratings had consitently grew is a major storyline.

Further, Rigo has been the focus of much discussion both for his rise up the p4p charts after beating nonito and because HBO/TR had a major debate over how to market him and his style-one of the more viewed and replied to threads this year not centered on floyd or manny.

I get you like to play the "nuetral, boxing fan" poster role. Cool. But ratings/ppv sales are a major detrmining factor in what fights will get made and what programming will be put on the air for those who "appreciate" the sport.

you have to acknowledge these things. they are what drive boxing, and what makes fights. if you want to understand boxing, you need to follow the money, and recognize that the direction the sport takes is based on a few powerful promotors trying to maximize their earnings in the long term.

ratings and what you call "star status" are boxing. that's what boxing is.

Saying the Rigo fight was boring isn't just going with the crowd. It's the truth. I think it's boring not because I'm told it is...because it literally was televised ambien. He should never headline a card because all the fighters on it will suffer. He might be a great talent but he has zero personality, draw, and fights greatly undermatched opponents like he's afraid of them. That's his fault...he wants to win I get that...but he also overvalues his worth in monetary terms. He's expecting more than he's worth and that's a big no no in the sport.

Ratings are huge...it's exactly for the reason you stated. You want to maximize the sports exposure. Sure talented guys might get overlooked, but if you create more interest everyone benefits. If no one watches boxing no one makes money. Boxing is like the WWE with actual fighting. You need a persona and personality to sell. You have to be the good guy or the heel.

The main point is ratings matter because it is what decides fights made as well as fights shown on TV. A card that will generate good ratings can benefit from putting better fighters on it. That way you get a better overall card. I can't sell boxing to my casual friends when cards like HBOs were put on...it's impossible.
