  • Comments Thread For: Gonzalez Not Happy With Money, But Plans To Face Mares

WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (55-8, 47KOs) was not happy with the money he was offered, and agreed to take, for the February 15th rematch with Abner Mares (26-1-1, 14KOs).

Gonzalez, one of the biggest one-punch hitters in the sport, caught Mares cold in the first round of their initial fight in August. They will return to the scene of the crime, the Staples Center in Los Angeles, to do it again.

He has a weak management team then about the money. Should have stood firm after all Mares wants this more than him.

They probably tried to pay him in walmart gift certificates so he wouldn't take the fight.

Come on man this is ridiculous. How come Paulie can get a milly but Gonzalez cant? They better atleast gave him half of 1.

Did the article say how much he has been offered for the rematch? Either way I guarantee it more than he's going to make if he makes a voluntary defense or fights his mandatory, whoever it is Russell Jr, or Castellanos. That win revived Jhonnys's career he should be happy about that. But I don't and him for wanting big money he deserves a big payday.

I got to think that Mares comes in and shows the respect that Gonzalez has earned, boxes a smarter, safer, and more calculated fight. And ultimately wins. Whether by stoppage or decision.

However if he doesn't, he's done forever as far as being considered an elite, P4P fighter.

Can't wait for this fight, both guys are great fighters, the type that trully always wana fight the best. But I think that if Mares is careful and paces himself better then the first time around and works Johnny's body to take away his power he will win a UD or even return the favor with a stoppage. We'll see what happens soon, but lets hope that it's a great fight.
