Comments Thread For: Argenis Mendez Eyes Unification With Mikey Garcia

(IBF), Argenis "La Tormenta" Mendez (21-2-1, 11 KOs), says the only fight that will keep him at 130 pounds, would be a unification fight against Miguel "Mikey" Garcia (33-0, 28 KOs), the world champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

On January 3 in Minneapolis, Mendez will defend his IBF crown against mandatory challenger Rances Barthelemy. For the last four weeks, Mendez has been training in Florida at the Iron Mike Productions gym with his coaches John David Jackson, Derik Santos and physical conditioning Axel Murillo.

Good fight but Mikey will just take this in the late rounds via stoppage. Mendez just doesn't do very well late in the rounds. His defense gets sloppy. But Mikey has been dropped and Mendez lands pretty flush too.

    Can't complain about it tho.

I will have to disagree with you. I think that Mendez's speed, accuracy and counter punching will give Mikey problems. And I see no problems with Mendez landing flush on Mikey since we all know that Mickey's head is attached with a brick (meaning no head movement). As I far as I can see Mendez has been improving a whole lot in every department specially in defense. My concern is not if the fight takes place...it's that I don't see Mikey's team taking this fight...at least not now.

Well, we saw last fight how Mendez was getting last fight cause he was fatiguing. But now that I think about it his opponent was keeping a pretty high pace wasn't he? Fortunately Mikey doesn't fight like that.

Nope. Argenis fights Ranses on January 3. He better focus on the present, 'cause Barthelemy is liable to beat his ass.

I don't give many a shot at beating Mickey at 130-135, But I could see Mendez giving him some problems. Mendez has underrated defense and is a very good counter puncher. Would love to see the fight happen
