Cotto will probably fight Martinez and if he wins he supposedly becomes the lineal middleweight champion. I won't accept him as the lineal middleweight champ because Martinez has become a ducking, dodging excuse of a champion. How can I take Cotto seriously as the lineal 160 pound champion when both welterweight Mayweather and Jr. Middleweight Trout clearly beat him not so long ago. To me GGG is the true champion and the best middleweight in the world. GGG will fight any middleweight that will sign the contract. If Martinez had been a fighting champion he would have already fought and lost to GGG. If Cotto wins it will just be a stunt for glory and he won't defend his new 160 title against GGG or any other top 4 middleweights.
Any word on who Cotto has picked Canelo/Martinez?

GGG is so overrated in these forums it's not even funny. Put him in there with a slick boxer and he'll get exposed as one dimensional. A healthy Martinez would school him. As far as Cotto, the only chance he has against Martinez is if Martinez doesn't recover fully from his injuries. BTW, Martinez is the lineal champ and deserves it. To be the man, you've gotta beat the man.Comment

Gotta love Cotto he fights any and evdrybody. Wouldnt be the least bit surprised if he beats Maftinez then fights GGG and goes down swinging like a boss.
People give him so much shiiiit but hes never once stopped a megafight the fans wanted to see.

For example, Mayweather only managed to win The Ring title from Canelo because he was #1 ranked by beating #1 ranked Cotto, and then beat the Champion Canelo.
So Cotto has to first beat a top 10 guy at 160, or just fight at 160 to be ranked top 10, and then maybe he could win the title but The Ring doesn't really explain that, it just explains who could win the vacant Ring title and how the champion can lose it.Comment

I could be wrong, but don't think he will win the lineal or Ring title at 160 if he beats Martinez. He will win Martinez's WBC 160 title only. You can not win the title if you are not ranked in the top 10 at the weight class.

Floyd won the title because Canelo was 2. Floyd best the #1 guy and took his spot. So when Floyd and Canelo fought, it was for the vacant Ring title. If Canelo already had the title and Floyd moved up to take it, then he takes it. I don't think it matters one bit. Wouldn't make any logical sense if it did. If Martinez loses to Cotto, he's no longer the man and Cotto becomes the lineal champ.
You may not personally recognize him, such as boliodogs up atop, and that's fine, but the line would have officially been passed to Cotto, in a historical sense.
I could be wrong, but I think it's the 2nd longest active lineal streak, so that's sorta coolComment

I say choosing to fight Canelo is a bad decision as a business. If GBP tried their best to rob Floyd, after he pitched a shutout, what chance does Cotto have at gettinga fair shake in Vegas? He'd have to Ko him, have multiple kd and maybe get a point deduction to earn a draw. That guy is getting 3 ppv in 2014, gbp will not let him loseComment
