Mostly dissapointing undercard. In the first fight, the opponent with a 0-1 record may have been the most petrified boxer I've ever seen. He was stiff and nervous for as long as he lasted.
Later, Yuri Foreman fought a completely mismatched local kid and after a short, one sided first round he got up from a knockdown and told the ref he didn't want to continue. His purse was witheld.
In the main event, by far the best and most competitive fight (because it went the distance) John Duddy outworked Julio Jean for ten rounds. Despite his highly-tauted two fisted attack, he was unable to put Jean in serious jeopardy. A Jean uppercut in one of the earlier rounds snapped Duddy's head back but overall Jean wasn't enough of a puncher to endanger the undefeated prospect. Later in the fight Julio showboated in the clinches, sticking his tongue out for the cameras. In one memorable moment, in the closing seconds of the 10th, Duddy lifted his right arm in victory only to have Julio do the same.
It was a good scrap and Julio Jean deserves kudos for a courageous effort in front of a crowd that wanted to see him get bombed out.
In attendance, among others, were Norman Stone (who I shook hands with), Peter McNeely, and Kevin McBride who just seemed like a nice guy who you couldn't wish any ill luck towards.
