BoxingScene.com has been advised that a deal is close for a battle of undefeated heavyweights, with Bryant Jennings (17-0, 9 KOs) facing Polish star Artur Szpilka (16-0, 12 KOs).

Jennings was initially set to face Mariusz Wach in January 18th in the HBO televised co-feature to Jean Pascal-Lucian Bute at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Wach agreed to the fight and then withdrew a few days later.

I'm excited to see Jennings back in action. The layoff has been brutal.

great matchup! this is a tough one to call. Jennings got that 84" reach he can use to pick apart his opponent. no doubt szpilka can punch & if he lands cleanly Jennings might be on his back. how far done was liakhovich when Jennings beat him? does he get too much credit for that win? he did beat bowie tupou but he also got hurt in that fight. i can't pick a winner here. Jennings reach vs szpilka's power & southpaw stance. they are evenly matched. both have been hurt & they have fought the same level of opposition for the most part. i just want the fight to happen. 2 guys trying to move up...

why is hbo doing this to us? wilder destroys both these guys in the first round. stop trying to build hypejobs hbo. wilder is and will be the champ from now until retirement.

Yes, this division is starving for big fights . Tho bigger fights can be made, this is a good heavyweight fight to start the new year. Jennings gets credit because he was an obscure nobody who ended up being a last minute replacement, and dominated a very good disciplined boxer. Jennings literally came out of nowhere and seized his opportunity. He has heart, decent defense, doesn't take a lot if any punishment. Comes in tip top shape, I think he will be too much for Szpilka. Szpilka gets hit too much and gets hit flush. but he has heart and decent skill set. he can box a little. Jennings is a dog he will press, and Szpilka likes to fight, so this will be a good one.

Has Wilder ever faced a top twenty opponent before?

I know... screw HBO for making good heavyweights fight each other instead of mismatches
