Comments Thread For: Rigondeaux Wants His Next Fight in Miami in March

BoxingScene.com caught up with WBO/WBA super bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux (13-0, 8KOs) and his co-manager/advisor Alex Bornote shortly after he pitched a 12 round shutout against former champion Joseph Agbeko. Bornote said that he wants his fighter to return to the ring in the first quarter of 2014.

I guess it's good for him to fight in his hometown, thats really the only place he'll have a decent crowd, when you are a draw you draw anywhere, las vegas, texas, east coast, but him it's not even the east coast in general because that placed looked empty Saturday night,it's just he probably can only make it in his hometown..would like to see him fight there,he needs to be more outgoing though, you need to help sell your fights,it's a business, smile more, give more interviews,i don't think I've ever seen a happy look on the guys face,be more engaging with the couple of fans he has and maybe he'll get a few dozen more, don't be like mayweather, but promote your fights more

It's not like Rigo doesn't have some personality. If you speak Spanish, he's actually pretty funny and quick witted. It seems he just doesn't feel comfortable talking to English-speaking reporters. Perhaps he knows that too much is lost in translation. Guillermo's new at this. Maybe with some time he'll develop a feel for the camera. Right now, though, "El Chacal" must be promoted in his adopted home town.

It's been brought up before. I think that BS article from "El Nuevo Herald" originally mentioned that venue for the Agbeko fight. As it turns out, it would've been the place for that fight. People would've been cheering Rigo, instead of walking out on him like they did in AC.

quick witted? I guess I've missed that part of him,i hardly see interviews of him,if he's going to fight in Miami, his hometown then he really should get out there and promote that fight, get on Univision, espn deportes a los golpes,go to fights and be seen..or who knows, maybe he doesn't care about the fame and just wants to be another chris john,i really think if he left top rank and went to goldenboy they would do more for him
