Comments Thread For: Glen Tapia is Doing Fine, Will Have a Cautious Return

The guts of Glen Tapia shouldn't surprise anyone who watched the courageous contender from Passaic perform in his HBO debut Saturday night against James Kirkland. Tapia displayed plenty of heart in a brutal battle that thoroughly entertained viewers and fans at Boardwalk Hall's Adrian Phillips Ballroom, but he'll have to re-establish himself after suffering a sixth-round technical knockout defeat in the biggest fight of his five-year pro career.

His trainer and cutman have never had a fight before...they have no business training fighters and working their corner when they don't know what its like to be in there. They almost got him killed.

I took my homeboy Glenn Tapia in this fight so obviously I am upset at the outcome.

Glenn needs to get a new corner ASAP. The diference in how the corner spoke and did their jobs was startling.

Tapias lead corner guy seemed in way above his head. For him to think Kirkland was tiring or spent shows he knows nothing about him-which is simply not acceptable.

This fight reminded me of DUran v Davey Moore. A good young guy gets in way over his head by picking an entirely wrong vet to fight.

This was a brutal beating that should've been stopped in rd 4 IMO.

I was so mad about this stoppage.. I think I was saying they should stop it 2 1/2 rounds b4 they did. But according to the Froch fight I guess fans would rather see a stoppage to late than one to early. The doctor, the corner and smogger really ruined my night.

I was thinking the same thing, his corner was telling him Kirkland was tiring and spent, but 1) they did not do their homework on the type of training / conditioning he goes through to get ready for a fight. 2) they must not have noticed that Kirkland was being held back at the center of the ring by Steve Smoger before each round started ! James Kirkland will always come in the best shape of his life - Tapia's corner was yelling at him (reminded me of wrestling coaches) - then when his trainer told him 2wice to show the doctor and the ref that he still had bounce left in him, and Tapia could not do it. these guys could have got him seriously hurt or even killed and this was way more one sided than the Mago fight.

Better corner would have dont their homework on Kirkland. Dude obviously has the skill to compete with Kirkland, but def should have fustrated Kirkland more and used his legs. I know its easier said than done, but with a fighter like Kirkland, you gotta pace yourself.
